Ravikiran made headlines as the world’s youngest prodigy at the age of two (in 1969).

Having had the privilege of learning vocal from his own father, Chitravina Narasimhan as well as the legendary Sangita Kalanihi Smt T Brinda, widely acknowledged as a musicians' musician. His interaction with her added a whole new dimension to his perception of the microscopic nuances of music. With his ability to sing with amazing breath-control, creativity and feeling, Ravikiran’s vocal concerts are generally looked forward to by music lovers, especially since they are much rarer, compared to his instrumental Chitravina concerts. Harrice Miller Entertainment and Jiva Performing Arts present Internationally acclaimed Maestro Ravikiran in his only Chitravina concert in New York City this year!
Exhibition of the celebrated artist Painter Anu Annam's work pre and post Chitravina Ravikiran's concert from 5 to 7 PM. http://www.anuannam.com
Ravikiran's name is synonymous with the Chitravina and is known worldwide as Chitravina Ravikiran.
Ravikiran's fascination for the Chitravina (earlier called Gotuvadyam), which was also the chosen medium of expression for his grandfather and father, began at the age of two. His maiden instrumental performance on Chitravina was in 1979, at age 12. His unique manner of playing even 3-5 minute long phrases without using his right hand have left musicians as well as music lovers speechless the world over. His accomplishments on the exquisite Chitravina (20/21-string-slide instrument) have made a striking impact in the arena of slide instruments as a whole. The distinctiveness of his style stems from his vocal training, which have enabled him to forge new techniques - especially the microtonal oscillations and fast phrases that combine grace and force. www.ravikiranmusic.com
