Chirag Katti, fondly called as ‘Sitar Vaadan ka Naya Chirag’ (a new star in the field of sitar), or ‘The Torch-bearer of musicians family’ is one of the most gifted and talented musician whose youthful exuberance and persona is well expressed through his music.
Learning Sitar from his father Pt.Shashank Katti, Chirag is a graded artist of A.I.R (All India Radio) and a Diploma holder in music from Mumbai University. Chirag is one of the most promising Sitarist in the field of Indian classical music.
A recipient of the prestigious ‘Surmani’ award and scholarship holder for Sitar by the Ministry of Culture (New Delhi), Chirag has performed on many television channels, radio and concerts in India and abroad (US, Japan, South Africa,Dubai).

Brooklyn Raga Massive presents Anupaman Shobhakar.
Anupam Shobhakar has released three World Fusion albums and one classical Indian music album. Born in Calcutta and raised in Bombay, Shobhakar was first recognized for his talents as an Indian Classical Music performer by the Priyadarshni Academy in Mumbai, who awarded him the Best Young Artist Award. He recorded his first album, “Mysterious Awakening,” in 2004, and has been touring internationally for many years, playing at major music festivals such as Canada’s Vancouver Folk Festival, MTV’s Independence Rock Festival in India, and Italy’s Roma Rock. In 2011, his track “Water” made it to the first round of the Grammy Awards. He is currently working on a new project entitled, “The Joel Harrison – Anupam Shobhakar Quintet.”
He will be accompanied by Ehren Hanson. A Brooklyn based tabla player, Ehren moved to India in 2000 to become a disciple of the great Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. In 2005 he received the prestigious “Senior Performing Arts Fellowship” from the American Institute of Indian Studies and has since gone on to perform in festivals and concerts in India, Europe, and America. He currently works as a professional tabla player, composer, and director of the Anindo Chatterjee School of Tabla.

A glaring example of total dedication, depth and maturity, Pandit Ramesh Mishra is a phenomenon in the field of Indian classical Music. Mastering over one of the most difficult unique string instruments ' Sarangi', Ramesh Mishra is today acclaimed as an outstanding artist of India. Son of great sarangi maestro Pt. Ramnath Mishra, Ramesh started his initial intensive training at very tender age from his father and acquired further knowledge and training from finest musicians of Benaras Gharana Pandit Hanuman Prasad Mishra and late Pandit Gopal Mishra. Presently Ramesh is under the tutelage of the legendary maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar.
A truly outstanding disciple of the world renowned bansuri maestro, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Jay initially trained in vocal music under Smt. Kum Kum Sanyal and later bansuri under Pt. Ronu Majumdar, Pt. Vijay Raghav Rao and Pt. Raghunath Seth. Inspired to gain deeper knowledge of both the gayaki ang (vocal style) as well as the tantrakari ang (stringed instrument style), Jay has also taken guidance from Pt Vidyadhar Vyas (vocal) and Pt. Nayan Ghosh (sitar, tabla). He is truly blessed to have been studying under the living legend of the bansuri, Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, at Brindavan Gurukul in Mumbai since 2006.

Lee Torchia, one of the most innovative women in jazz today, is a performer of swinging jazz and East Indian Classical Music (Ragas). Lee will premiere her pioneering JazzRaga fusion of "Caravan" with "Raga Bhairevi" followed by jazz standards: love songs, blues and swing.
Joining her is the grammy-nominated pianist, James Weidman, Paul Beaudry on Bass, Naren Budhakar on Tabla, G. Earl Grice on drums.

This week, Brooklyn Raga Massive welcomes the stellar group of musicians known as The Neel Murgai Ensemble featuring:

The group is a realization of Neel’s many years of experimentation in Indian classical music, free improvisation, modern compositional techniques, mathematical rhythmic structures and droning overtone minimalism. It features Sameer Gupta (Marc Cary’s Focus Trio) on tabla, Carnatic violinist Arun Ramamurthy, Western and Carnatic trained violinist Train Basu, and classically trained Marika Hughes on cello. Together they create a raga-chamber jazz with Indian melody and rhythm, orchestral textures and ecstatic flights of improvisational fancy.
They have performed at the 2012 Sinaloa Cultural Festival, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Sun to Stars Festival, SUNY New Paltz, Museum of Natural History, Tea Lounge and many other theaters, clubs and festivals.

Since the death of the world-famous Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in 1997, there have been many contenders to inherit his place as "Emperor of Qawwali." There is no doubt now that Asif Ali Khan has emerged as the one of the genre's reigning princes. While remaining true to the Punjabi tradition that was Nusrat's hallmark, he has developed a style and presence all of his own.

Roopa Mahadevan is a versatile Indian classical vocalist. Born and raised in Northern California, she received major training in Carnatic vocal music under Asha Ramesh, a disciple of D.K. Jayaraman, and later, through the U.S. Fulbright scholarship, trained in Chennai, India under Suguna Varadachari, disciple of Musiri Subramania Iyer. In 2010, she was awarded the title "Kala Ratna" by the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana for her commitment to Carnatic music as a young American. Roopa has also trained in Bharathanatyam, is a sought-after vocalist for Bharathanatyam performances, and enjoys performing R&B/soul music and musical theater. www.roopamahadevan.com
Arun Ramamurthy is a gifted violinist who is making his mark in Indian Classical and World music. Disciple of Dr. Mysore Manjunath & Sri Mysore Nagaraj, he has become one of the most sought after violinists in the US. Arun has been fortunate to perform with major artists like Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, T.N. Seshagopalan, T.V. Gopalakrishna, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Pandit Ramesh Misra, Subhankar Banerjee and more.
