K. V. Mahabala and Narendra Budhakar on Tabla.
K. V. Mahabala had his initial training in music under Shri Yoga Narasimha of the Maihar tradition. He then recieved intensive training under Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra, a senior disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. He has several CDs to his credit and has performed in several prestigeous venues including the Chhandayan All-Night concert.
Shri Narendra Budhakar -Tabla began his training under his cousin Srikant Purandare and later recieved further guidance from Pandit Shamtaprasad. He is currently in the US and trains under Pandit Samir Chatterjee.

Ustademaa Zila Khan.
Acclaimed for her mesmerizing vocals, UstadeMaa Zila Khan has been called “the Sufi legend of the new millennium.” She is a daughter and disciple of the late maestro sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan, and was the first woman in the Khan family –whose musical lineage goes back seven generations – to sing in public. A leading Sufi singer in India, she performs in the Imadkhana gharana (tradition) of her esteemed family. In addition to Sufi songs, she has a commanding style in classical ragas and has revived the old-world style of ghazals (semi-classical songs). This program marks a rare New York appearance. Born in Bogota Colombia, Camila Celin began learning Guitar at age 9. By her early teens she earned recognition for her compositions and performances but soon desired more. Driven by her curiosity, she would go on to explore the music cultures in New York, Cuba, and India. In her travels she collaborated with many great artists including guitar legend Debashish Bhattacharya for which she received a grammy nomination in 2008. Currently living between Kolkata India and New York, she is an active performer and recording artist, and is under the guidance of sarod player Sougata Roy Choudhury, tabla legend Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, and sitar maestro Pandit Krishna Bhatt.
Ehren Hanson began learning tabla at age 15 under Misha Masud of New York City. In the year 2000, he was accepted as a disciple by the great Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and has developed into an exciting performer and dynamic teacher. In 2002 he taught Indian rhythm as an assistant professor at Bard College and in 2005 he received the prestigious “Senior Performing Arts Fellowship” from the American Institute of Indian Studies. He has performed in festivals and concerts in India, Europe, and America, and is currently living in New York City where he works as a professional tabla player, composer, and director of ACST.

Inclined from his teens towards authentic traditional classical music forms, Pt. Subroto Roy Chowdhury learned with Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury and Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan. Deeply infatuated with Dhrupad tradition and raag-dari, Subroto stepped back in history to return to classicism under the dominant influence of Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury,Veena Sursringar, and Sur-Rabab player of Gouripur. This drove him to the famous Senior Dagar brothers, Mohinuddin and Aminuddin. Eventually he became a “ganda bandhan“ Shagird (disciple) of Ustad Nasir Aminuddin Khan Dagar, a famous Dhrupad Singer and a formal introduction to Pdt. Radhika Mohan Maitra. Subroto later in life got a glimpse of the Jaipur-Senia Sitar baj of Western India (Pachao or Pashchim Ke Sitar) during his brief stint with Pdt. Bimal Mukherjee.

"My first performance was way back in 1984 in a programme organsied by Sadguru Gana Sabha," recollected the sitar exponent, who is now a disciple of sitar maestro Pandit Ravishankar. Mr. Krishna was not sure of success in music and was hesitant to turn into a professional sitar artiste. "Those were frustrating times. I learnt sitar for 10 years under the tutelage of Pandit N. R Rama Rao, a disciple of Pt. Ravishankar. I was not sure of carving a niche for myself as a professional but the passion was always there to learn and perform."

Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is an internationally renowned exponent of the bansuri, or bamboo flute. His musical career has spanned 50 years, with over 100 albums released. He has been awarded the National Award of the Sangeet Natak Academy (1984), the Konark Samman (1992), the Padma Bhushan (1992), the Yash Bharati Sanman (1994), Rajiv Gandhi Ekta Award (1998), Padma Vibhushan (2000), Hafeez Ali Khan Award (2000), Dinanath Mangeshkar Award (2000), Orders des Arts et Lettres (Knight Of The Order Of Arts & Letters, 2009), Nada Vidya Bharati (2010) and honorary doctorates from North Orissa University and IIT Kharagpur (2010). He was invited to perform at Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies in Oslo and his music, along with Ravi Shankarji's, was played in outer space by Kalpana Chawla.

Hindustani Classical Concert with Eric Fraser on Bansuri Flute and Nitin Mitta on Tabla!
Eric Fraser (bansuri flute) is an exponent of a unique style of North-Indian flute playing that is rarely heard today. Through a fiery devotion that has led him to spend much of the last 10 years in Kolkata, India to study flute with Pandit Gopal Roy, Erics flute playing tells the story of his gharana (lineage), a lineage marked by Padma Bhushan Pannalal Ghosh and Pandit Gour Goswami. With its depth, strong distinct tone and vilumvit laya (slow tempo), this rare approach to bansuri flute invites listeners into serene contemplation and rich aesthetic landscapes. Eric is a 2010 Fulbright senior research scholar for Indian music, and has enchanted audiences with the sound of his flute in India and the USA.
Nitin Mitta is one of the most accomplished and distinctive tabla players of his generation, with a reputation for technical virtuosity, spontaneity, clarity of tone, and sensitivity to melodic nuances.
Apart from being a dynamic soloist, he is a highly sought after accompanist who has performed with some of Indias most celebrated Hindustani classical musicians, including Pandit Jasraj, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pandit Nayan Ghosh and Ustad Shahid Parvez, as well as many Carnatic musicians, such as Lalgudi G.J.R Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi.

Sitarist Shri Rabindra Narayan Goswami has been a professional musician for over 40 years and is recognized as a senior artist in Banaras (Varanasi), India. Goswami-ji is a disciple of the late Smt. Amiya Devi, and also studied the ancient Dhrupad style with Pandit Ramakant Mishra. Later in life, he studied the advanced intricacies of raga with the great Dr. Balchandra Patekar of Bombay and Banaras. He has won a number of national awards in India, including first place in the Prayag Sangeet Samiti All-India Competition in 1967, and second place at Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy in 1972.

Rajyashree Ghosh.
Rajyasree Ghosh started her training in Indian Classical Music at a very early age. In recognition of her exceptional talents, she was awarded the Gold Medal both in B.A and M.A in Classical Music (Kheyal) from the Rabindra Bharati University. She was later awarded the National Scholarship by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India in 1986 under the training of Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee.

Indradeep Ghosh and Michael Braudy - East and West... Michael and Indradeep will contrast respectively the meditative and rhythmic music of the West with the classical raga of India.
Indradeep Ghosh was initiated into the art of violin playing at the tender age of six. As he matured in his musical studies, he earned the privilege of studying under Indian classicalmaestros, Pt. A versatile improviser, he regularly collaborates with poets, storytellers, dancers, theatre and mime.Michael studied Western violin with Raphael Bronstein and Dorothy Delay, and Indian violin with Acharya Roop Verma and Pandit V.G. Jog.
