The young maestro R.Suryaprakash had his advanced musical training from Sangeetha Kalanidhi T.V. Sankaranarayanan, imbibing the rich tradition of the legendary Madurai Mani Iyer and assimilating the best of other traditions to blaze his original trail among the present generation of musicians. Endowed with a vibrant and felicitous voice with a range of about three octaves, he also has a vast repertoire and boundless creative expression. No wonder his concerts have always enthralled the audience and appealed to both the connoisseur and the novice!

The American Jazz Jam session has historically been a way for musicians to meet, network, play music together and cultivate community. With the Brooklyn Raga Massive Jam Session, we are attempting to bring that Jazz culture to Raga music.
The Brooklyn Raga Massive Jam will be a monthly event, where Indian Classical Music can gather for informal performances in the Jazz Jam Session style. There will be a host for the event, who will manage a sign-up list which will have name, instrument, experience level, and contact info listed. Although Indian Classical Music typically has performances lasting 40+ minutes for one piece, the performance slots for the Raga Jam will be limited to max 20 minutes to encourage a rotating roster of performers.

Indo American Arts Council presents Sitar maestro Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan in Concert! Accompanied by Pandit Samir Chatterjee on tabla.
Shujaat Husain Khan is perhaps the greatest North Indian classical musician of his generation. He belongs to the Imdad Khan gharana (tradition) of the sitar (lute) and is the seventh in the unbroken line from his family that has produced many musical masters. His style known as the gayaki ang, is imitative of the subtleties of the human voice.
Shujaat Husain Khan is the son and disciple of master sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan. His musical pedigree continues back through his grandfather, Ustad Inayat Khan; his great-grandfather, Ustad Imdad Khan; and his great-great-grandfather, Ustad Sahebdad Khan - all leading artist of their generation.

Pt Tejendra Majumdar is holding a workshop at Namaskar School of Music for all students of Indian Classical Music, in Brooklyn!
One of the best-known Sarod players of the present generation, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, has long achieved that order of excellence and popular acceptability, which ensure one's place in posterity. Early initiation into music by his grandfather, Late Bibhuti Ranjan Majumdar and later his father, Late Ranjan Majumdar, nurtured Tejendra's considerable talent. Vocal and rhythm training under ...Late Pandit Amaresh Chowdhury and Sri Anil Palit further ensured a holistic musical development in him. Tejendra was then accepted by Late Ustad Bahadur Khan as his disciple.
This is a great opportunity to play for Pandit ji and get crucial feedback about your music. He will comment on your performance and will show fresh ways to expand the knowledge of technique, raaga and taala. Bring your instrument, and receive directed feedback after presenting your work directly in front of the Maestro himself. Maestro Tejendra Majumdar has a vast knowledge on the Classical Indian tradition. He is a master of melody and rhythm and with one single seating can impact any musician's life profoundly. A rare luminary of Indian Classical Music, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee has attained new heights in the art of tabla playing. Trained from... his early childhood by Guru Padmabhusan Jnan Prakash Ghosh, Anindo has developed a unique style expanding upon his vast knowledge of the tradition. Both technically and artistically, he is a milestone for future generations to follow, for whom he is a devoted Guru with some very promising disciples, including his son Anubrata. He is equally regarded as a soloist and an accompanist and has shared the stage with almost all the great musicians of India. In acknowledgment of his immense contribution to music, he was awarded the “Sangeet Natak Akademy Award” in 2002, presented by His Excellency The President of India.
Classes are broken up into 2 sections: "Future Advanced", and "Advanced". (Please enquire about beginner classes.) Student will play tabla during their section, but are encouraged to stay for the whole class. All students will receive extensive online resources as well as classes streaming live over the internet.
For students who cannot attend the classes live, or who can only attend some of the classes, online classes / flex schedule are available. ACST's online classes / flex schedule gives students access to the archives as well as streaming classes, and allows them to attend classes at their convenience.

A new series of instrumental and vocal classes with Sitar maestro Pt. Krishna Bhatt:
1- Advanced Instrumental/Sitar Class - Monday evenings at 7:30pm.
This course will provide students with an in-depth exploration of raga form, with a special emphasis on composition and improvisation techniques. The class will have a special focus on the sitar, but it is open to any instrument (Western or Indian, tuned to play in a key of C#). Classes will be held Students at all levels are encouraged to participate.
2- Beginner Instrumental/Sitar Class - Monday evenings at 6:30pm.
3- Vocal Class - Wednesday evenings at 7pm
Pt. Krishna Bhatt will introduce students to the techniques and compositions of the Maihar Gharana (school) of the legendary Baba Ustad Allaudin Khan.
North Indian classical music is an oral tradition, and vocal music provides a fundamental key to understanding the Hindustani musical style. The vocal course will explore the basic tenets of Hindustani vocal music, as well as the different styles of singing and composition of North India. Instrumentalists are also encouraged to attend.
Fees are for the six-week session.
$300 – 1 Class per week. (6 classes)
$550 – 2 classes per week. (12 classes)
Auditors can attend all classes for $300.
Option to take classes online at a reduced tuition, which will give students from outside the New York area the opportunity to access video and audio recordings of the classes, selected written materials and even watch LIVE streaming broadcasts of the sessions through the Gurukul website.

He continues to train under his cousin Sri Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, a well-known sarode player.
The in-depth study of his art extended to the late Ajoy Sinha Roy, a disciple of Baba Allauddin Khan, the founder of the Maihar Gharana/school of music in Varanasi. His laykari/playing techniques are a salute to Anil Palit, the senior most disciple of Kishan Maharaj. The melodious voice brought out of his instrument comes from his mentorship with Ajoy Chakraborty in Kolkata.
