Dr. Nirmala Sundararajan has trained under eminent gurus M.S.Soundarammal, Sri Ramnad Krishnan, Sri P.N.Raghava Rao, T.Mukta and Sangeeta Kalanidhi Sri T.M.Thyagarajan and has a Ph.D with the Thesis "Compositional Diversities in Karnatic Music". She has received many awards and titles such as Sri Hastigirinatha Gana Kokila, Nadakanal, Sangita Sironmani and Sangita Kala Jyothi from various sabhas.
Dr. Subhashini Parthasarathy Trained and tutored by eminent scholars like Sangita Kalanidhi Sri T.M. Thiagarajan, the great Padam exponent Smt. T. Mukta and Sri.P.N.Raghava Rao and nurtured by her mother Dr. Nirmala Sundararajan, Dr. Subhashini Parthasarathy exhibits amazing erudition in Karnatic music. She has several awards to her credit, including the Yuva Kala Bharati, Dr.S.PInakapani Award, Suryakantha Memorial Award, Kuwait Musician of the year 2007.

Akhilesh Gundecha is the youngest of the Gundecha Brothers, among the world's leading performers of Dhrupad. In 2005 he founded The Madhyalaya Percussion Ensemble, which has performed at many of the most prestigious classical music festivals in India to high acclaim from both audiences and the press. Prafulla Athalye is one of the leading Tabla players of India and is one of the most senior disciples of Tabla Maestro Late “Ustad Allarakha.” Prafulla started taking his initial training from “Shri. Vasant Vishnupurikar” when he was 6 years old. After studying first 5 years from him, he studied about 14 years from “Ustad Allarakha” and currently, Prafulla is studying under his son, Tabla Maestro “Ustad Zakir Hussain” and “Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar”. Overall, he has been learning since more than 28 years. Prafulla is the recipient of many awards.

Pt. Krishna Bhatt.
Starting May 2 to June 30, a new series of music classes will begin in New York City for those interested in learning sitar and North Indian classical vocal and instrumental music.
Led by sitar maestro Pt. Krishna Bhatt, the classes will introduce students to the techniques and compositions of the Maihar Gharana (school) of the legendary Baba Ustad Allaudin Khan.
Sessions will begin Monday, May 2 at 7:30pm.
Fees are for the two-month session.
$400 – 1 Class per week. (8 classes)
$700 – 2 classes per week. (16 classes)
$900 – 3 classes per week. (24 classes)
Auditors can attend all classes for $400.

The Dergah al-Farah is blessed to host the Shahi Qawwals, a troupe of traditional Chishty Sufi Sama singers from Dargah Ajmer Sharif of 6th Century saint Haz-rat Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti, located in Northern India. The Qawwali tradition is a form of Sufi devotional music that stretches back 700 years. It is per- formed mainly at Sufi shrines, but was popularized by the late Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. His father and Guru was Ustad Aziz Khan, a great musician of his time and a noted composer. Ustadji is the grandson of Ustad Waheed Khan Sahab, the legendary Sitar and Surbahar player.

Shujaat Husain Khan is perhaps the greatest North Indian musician of his generation, and the son and disciple of the legendary sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan. His musical pedigree continues back through his grandfather, Ustad Inayat Khan; his great-grandfather, Ustad Imdad Khan; and his great-great-grandfather, Ustad Sahebdad Khan - each one a legend of his generation.

will conduct a special workshop of sitar at CCIM. Ustad Shujat Khan is one of the most well-recognized names in today's world of Indian classical music. As the son and disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan, he is the direct representative of the Imdadkhani-Itawa gharana, the lineage of his forefathers - Ud. Imdad Khan, Ud. Enayat Khan and Ud. Vilayat Khan. Shujat is reputed not only as performer, but also as a great communicator and teacher. He is generously patient, understanding and enthusiastic. Students are promised to benefit a lot out of this opportunity. It is not needed to belong to his gharana, style or instrument to avail of this opportunity.

One of the best-known Sarod players of the present generation, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar has long achieved that order of excellence and popular acceptability which ensure one's place in posterity. Early initiation into music by his grandfather, the Late Bibhuti Ranjan Majumdar, and later his father, the Late Ranjan Majumdar, nurtured Tejendra's considerable talent. Vocal and rhythm training under the Late Pandit Amaresh Chowdhury and Sri Anil Palit further ensured a holistic musical development. Tejendra was then accepted by the Late Ustad Bahadur Khan as his disciple. Eighteen years of intensive study under him matured his talent into true genius. After the untimely demise of his guru, he studied under the Late Sri Ajay Sinha Roy and later under one of the legends of Indian Music--the world-renowned Late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

Ananda Ashram presents a vocal concert with Deepak Kumar Parek.
Deepak Kumar Parek is a light classical singer and composer from the state of Rajasthan, India. Deepak first studied with his father, Shri P.N. Vyas, and later with Ustad R.F. Dagar, Ustad Moinuddin Khan and Shri Mohinderjit Singh. His music covers a wide spectrum of styles: ghazals (romantic poetry), bhajans (devotional songs), kirtan and classic film songs.
Deepak Kumar offers also vocal music classes.
Preceded by Meditation & Readings from the Masters with Joan Suval beginning at 7:00PM (by donation).
